Frequently Asked Questions

Products

What do essential oils do?

Essential oils are very concentrated oils from various parts of the plant that are used in aromatherapy for health benefits such as stress relief and improved mood. Each essential oil has specific healing properties. Lavender is a nervine oil that when inhaled helps soothe the mind and body while citrus oils are uplifting and help improve the mood.

Is it safe to use essential oils in a product?

Yes, it is safe to use essential oils in products as long as you are using the correct dilution. I use low dilutions of essential oils in my products, so they are not irritating to the skin.

Are these products safe for babies?

Yes, these products are dermatologist tested and pediatrician approved. I use low dilutions of essential oils. The Original Unscented Lotion, Wash and Oil do not contain any essential oils.

Are your products dermatologist tested?

Yes, all of Chance of Sunny products have been dermatologist tested and pediatrician approved. All of the products had HRiPT testing which is a skin patch test on 50 people through a dermatologist. There were no skin reactions to the products on any of the people who were tested.

Is this good for people with eczema?

Yes! The products are gentle and moisturizing for the skin. I have the original unscented line of wash, lotion and oil, plus a line of lavender and a line of citrus products. All the products are dermatologist tested and pediatrician approved. The original unscented bath and body lotion has been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance which means we did additional testing on 100 people with sensitive skin, and we had no irritation or reaction from the lotion.

What does the Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association mean?

The Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association means that a product is suitable for individuals with eczema and sensitive skin, and that the product has undergone rigorous testing and review by the NEA. The formula has been reviewed and does not contain known irritants.

Are your products tested on animals?

Our products are never tested on animals. All our products were tested on my skin first, then given to friends and family, then skin patch tested by a dermatologist. We are Leaping Bunny certified as being cruelty free.

Is this good for sensitive skin?

Yes! I formulated these products specifically for people with sensitive skin. I have family members with eczema or other very sensitive skin issues, and I wanted to make something for them. I have fair skin and it can get red, so I need something gentle for my own skin. When COVID hit, everyone was washing their hands more frequently or using hand sanitizer which dried out the skin. At my brother’s veterinary hospital my bath and body wash and lotion were the perfect solutions for distressed skin because the wash doesn’t strip the natural oils from your skin and the lotion absorbs quickly without feeling greasy.

Can these be used on acne prone skin?

Our formulas are made with non-comedogenic ingredients, meaning they won’t clog pores. We also use jojoba oil, which closely mimics the skin’s natural sebum and helps maintain balanced, healthy skin.

Can these be used on the face?

Our products are gentle and safe to use anywhere on your body, including your face. As with any skincare product, avoid direct contact with your eyes.

Founder

How did you come up with the name Chance of Sunny?

I originally wanted the name to have pink flamingos in it because I love flamingos and they are very community oriented. Unfortunately, there are a lot of companies with the name flamingo or pink flamingo so I had to make a change. Someone on my marketing team had a list of names and Chance of Sunny popped out at me so I chose that. I think Chance of Sunny really suits the company.

How did you create your products?

One morning I was in the shower looking at my shower gel and I realized I couldn’t pronounce one ingredient, and I wondered what I was putting on my body. The skin absorbs what you put on it, and I wanted to make something I knew was clean. I decided I was going to create my own shower gel. I went to school to become an aromatherapist and then I went to school to learn how to make the products. I made a bunch of different products and gave them out to family and friends. Some products they loved and some they didn’t. I was surprised the lotion was a hit and now it’s my hero product.

What are your favorite ingredients?

I love shea butter because of all its healing properties. I also really love the ingredients in the oils, from Jojoba to Hazelnut to Baobob to Avocado to Pumpkin Seed to Rosehip Seed oil. The Jojoba, Hazelnut and Avocado oils all absorb easily into the skin. These oils are all high in vitamins and minerals, fatty acids, proteins, all things that moisturize and protect the skin. And of course, I love the essential oils in the lavender and citrus products for the scent and their healing
properties.

Which product is your favorite?

I love all of my products, but I think oil is my favorite. When I look at the power of the individual oils in this product and then I think about how they work together it makes the choice easy for me. The lotions are a close second, but definitely the oils are my favorite.

How do I use the oil?

The oil is my favorite product and there are so many ways to use them! I mix and match the scents with the wash and the lotion every day. I apply the oil when I come out of the shower before I towel off to lock the moisture into my skin. At night, I gently massage the oil onto my face and then take a warm cloth to gently remove my make up. If I have had a long day, I take a shower and mix the lavender lotion and oil together and then snuggle with my cat on the couch with a cup of tea or a glass of wine. I keep a bottle of oil next to the sink and apply the oil to my hands and cuticles to keep my nails healthy. I use oils on my hands and feet to keep my skin soft. I have friends use the oil to shave their legs or they use a small amount on the ends of their hair.

Ingredients

What does plant-based ingredient mean?

A plant-based ingredient in beauty refers to an ingredient derived from plants, not from animals or petroleum based. They are chosen for their natural properties and potential benefits for the skin. They are cruelty free and vegan. Although they may be made in a lab, they have the same molecular structure as in nature and they are manufactured to be vegan-friendly.

What is shea butter good for?

It is a creamy fat found nuts from the Karite tree in West Africa that is solid at room temperature but melts on the skin. Shea butter relieves dry skin by helping to lock in moisture. It acts as an anti-inflammatory. It has vitamins A and E, two anti-oxidants that help prevent cell damage. It helps improve eczema because the fatty acids held strengthen your skin barrier with helps ward off irritants and germs from your body. It has linoleic acid which helps protect the skin barrier.

Why don’t you use synthetic fragrances?

Synthetic fragrances can be a catch all ingredient where you don’t really know what is in them and they can trigger the skin. I prefer to use essential oils in low dilutions.
