Life can get heavy. Whether it be stress from work, struggles in our personal relationships, or falling behind on goals, it is very easy for the weight of our everyday lives to become overbearing.

When things get tough, it is important to know how to reset your mind and body. Even the smallest practices can help us settle down, gather ourselves, and move forward more easily. From listening to relaxing music to watching your favorite comedy movie, there are a variety of ways to ground yourself and get back to the basics.

It is important to recognize that resets are not a guarantee to completely relieve you of the stresses you may feel from life. However, they are a highly effective way to begin approaching every day head on with a healthier mindset.

Here is a list of things one can do to reset when life gets too heavy.

  1. Listen to relaxing music - check out our playlist

  2. Watch your favorite tv show or movie, especially comedies

  3. Cook your favorite food

  4. Get fresh air on a walk around the neighborhood

  5. Sit on your porch in the sun for a half hour

  6. Listen to your favorite podcast

  7. Make a doodle

  8. Write for 10-15 minutes in a stream-of-consciousness style

  9. Lay on your back for 20 minutes with your eyes closed and hands on your stomach, focusing on your breathing as you feel the gentle rise and fall of your stomach

  10. Perform a small task, such as cleaning your bedroom or washing dishes, to feel more on top of things

  11. Slowly moisturize your skin in a still environment

Of course, there are an infinite number of small things one can do to help reset when life is hard. Not every reset activity will work for some people, and that is more than okay. It is important to do what calms you down in times of stress and make it a consistent habit.

Remember that you are doing your best, and life will not always be hard. These little acts can go a long way.
